An international law firm, headquartered in London, instructed us to assist with hiring a Partner to build and develop their German practice. What made this assignment challenging was that the client’s ideal candidate would in all likelihood be German trained lawyer practising in Brussels who would be willing to relocate to Germany.
Leveraging off our international research capability, we mapped out the market for Brussels-based EU/Competition partners. At the same time, using our networks in London, Brussels and Germany we contacted relevant people in order to build a list of potential candidates. We then arranged a series of face to face meetings with candidates in Brussels. There were several reasons for meeting the potential candidates in person; to give us a more in-depth understanding of the individuals over and above publicly available information, their pracitce and their motivations and to make an assessment of whether there would be a cultural fit with our client.
After meeting a number of potential candidates, we then presented our client with a highly focussed shortlist. Our client interviewed the short listed candidates and an offer was made to the standout candidate.
Following this assignment, we have subsequently worked with this client on a number of senior partner searches in other practice areas and across their global offices.
